Privacy Policy for Scan It Rate It
Effective Date: July 26, 2024
This Privacy Policy describes how Kylan Hill / the developers ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with your use of the Scan it Rate It mobile application (the "App").
1. Information We Collect
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Our App is designed to be a private and local tool for you.
A. Information You Provide to Us (Locally Stored Data)
When you use the App, you can scan barcodes and save related information. This data includes:
Product Name
Note
Rating (Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down / Unrated)
Barcode Number
The date and time the item was saved
Crucially, all of this information is stored exclusively on your device. We do not have access to it, and it is never transmitted to our servers or any third party by us.
B. Camera Usage
The App requires permission to use your device's camera. The camera's sole function is to act as a real-time scanner to read barcodes.
We do not store, save, or transmit any images or video from your camera. The camera feed is processed on your device in real-time by Google's ML Kit library to detect a barcode, and the resulting image data is immediately discarded.
C. Information Collected for Advertising
The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements, which helps support the App's development. AdMob may collect and use certain data to provide personalized ads. This may include:
Device identifiers (such as the Google Advertising ID)
IP Address
Information about your device, such as its type and operating system
General interaction data with ads shown in the App
For more information on how Google collects and uses this data, please review Google's Privacy & Terms page: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
2. How We Use Your Information
To Provide App Functionality: The data you save (product name, notes, etc.) is used only to provide the core features of the App, such as displaying your list of saved items.
To Display Advertisements: Data collected by Google AdMob is used to display ads that help keep the App free. You can choose to opt-out of personalized advertising through your device's settings.
3. Data Storage, Security, and Your Choices
A. Data Storage
Your saved item data is stored in a private database on your device's local storage. You are in full control of this data. If you uninstall the App, this data will be permanently deleted from your device.
B. CSV File Export
The App provides a feature allowing you to export your saved items list as a CSV file. This action is initiated entirely by you. The generated CSV file is saved directly to your device's public "Downloads" folder. This file is then under your control, and we do not access, store, or transmit it.
C. Your Rights and Choices
You have complete control over your data within the App. You can:
Access and Edit: View and modify any saved item at any time.
Delete: Permanently delete individual items by long-pressing on them, or delete all data by uninstalling the App.
Export: Download a copy of your data at any time using the CSV export feature.
4. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take appropriate action.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
